Adaptations to Survive

written by Mrs. Naylor

Fourth grade science students are studying ecosystem interactions.  They are learning how animals have adaptations that allow them to survive in their environment.  Students had fun creating their own fantasy animals that have special adaptations that allow them to escape predators.  They used cups, plates, spoons, forks, straws, pipe cleaners, foil, leaves, crepe paper, macaroni, and a large variety of odds and ends all held together with a little Elmer’s glue and a lot of ingenuity.  Daniel was overheard to say, “I have been waiting for this class all day!”  His creation looks a bit like a large green grasshopper.  Jonathon’s creature has a special rotating mouth.  Carol’s animal can blow out ice to freeze a predator.  Their teacher is amazed at how inventive this group of students is.
